Rescue Pets | Humane Society of Sarasota County | Florida Dog Photography

May 11, 2013

I made it out to The Humane Society of Sarasota County to photograph some of the pets up for adoption this week. I had quite a cast of characters waiting for me when I got there. Thanks to HSSC's awesome volunteers, Vickie and Lynn, for all your help. I even had a little time to fit in a lovable kitty named Glitter.

Here are the sweet faces I met.  If you are looking for a new addition to your family or know someone that is, be sure to check out their website  -  www.hssc.org  - to see all of the pets up for adoption.

Vintage Paws Sanctuary Memorial Garden | Sarasota Florida Pet Photography

May 3, 2013

Vintage Paws Sanctuary is the brain child of my friend and owner of Ace Pet Resort, Jennifer Hummel.  Jen Started the non-profit 501(c)3 sanctuary in 2012 and has since acquired quite a few residents at the Sarasota Florida location. Her goal with Vintage Paws is to give senior and terminally-ill dogs a home of their own through the help of grants, fundraising and private donors.

A few weeks ago, with the help of volunteers including Backyard Getaway and Re-Scape.com, the group built a memorial garden on the grounds of Ace Pet Resort. I stopped by to lend a hand and snap a few pics. A few of the residents came out to support (hugs and cuddles) as well.

To find out more information and how you can help these deserving souls, please visit www.vintagepaws.org

Friday was a little quiet around the office so I headed on over to The Humane Society of Sarasota County to meet some of the new residents. Exciting new changes going on at the shelter. I almost didn't recognize the lobby when I walked in. It looks great, so fresh and bright. I also found out that they are adding a new free roaming cat room to the facility.

Here are some of the pups I met and if you are looking for a new addition to your family or know someone that is, be sure to check out their website  -  www.hssc.org  to see all of the pets up for adoption.  And remember to keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Twitter and Facebook and now on Pinterest.

Shelter Friends | Humane Society of Sarasota County | Florida Pet Photography | Rescue Puppies and Kittens

I found myself with a little free time on Friday, so I headed on over to The Humane Society of Sarasota County.  I even had a little extra time to photograph some kitties before I had to leave.  If you are looking for a new addition to your family or know someone that is, be sure to check out their website  -  www.hssc.org  to see all of the pets up for adoption.  And remember to keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Twitter and Facebook.

Trina and Trixie are two of the sweetest and most beautiful Pitties I have ever met.  It was easy to tell these sisters were cut from the same cloth.  Neither of them wanted anything to do with my camera.  I finally had to come up with a covert operation and hide behind the bushes and whistle in a very strange tone to get them to look in my direction.  They both caught on quickly though and after about the second shot they were headed in the opposite direction.  It probably looked very funny from an outsiders perspective, but it worked!

It is Kitten overload right now at the shelter and I was able to spend a little time in the cat room before I had to leave.

It has been a little while since I have had a break in my schedule, but on Friday I was able to make a visit  to The Humane Society of Sarasota County.  I had such a great time with this cast of characters and they sure kept me on my toes.

The HSSC has quite the overflow of wonderful adoptable pets.  So if you are looking or know someone that is, be sure to visit www.hssc.org to see all the pets up for adoption, or stop by the shelter to meet your perfect match for yourself.

Paws on the Catwalk 2012 | Humane Society of Sarasota County | Ritz Carlton Sarasota | Florida Pet Photography

The 6th Annual Paws on the Catwalk Luncheon was held on Friday April 27, 2012 at The Ritz Carlton in Sarasota, Florida. The luncheon, silent auction, and fashion show all went to benefit The Humane Society of Sarasota County. Every year this event seems to get better and better.  If you were one of the lucky ticket holders to this sold out event, it definitely did not disappoint.

Many of the attendees were able to meet and greet with some of the HSSC's pets up for adoption and stars of the runway during the pre-lunch festivities.

The fashion show was fabulous with models sporting fashions from local stores and boutiques in town.

Even Dr. Chauvet took a spin down the catwalk.

But the real stars of the show were the HSSC's own pups. They did fantastic!

And here are the super awesome volunteers of the HSSC that helped escort the pooches down the runway! Thank you for all your time and effort in helping make this years event one to remember!

Paws in Motion Walk-A-Thon | Humane Society of Manatee County | Sarasota Pet Photography

Last Saturday, March 24th, was the Annual Paws in Motion Walk-A-Thon to benefit the Humane Society of Manatee County.  This is the second year in a row that I have covered the event for the HSMC in beautiful downtown Bradenton, and once again was fantastic turnout.  So many of you raised money and came out on picture perfect Saturday morning to show your support. Bravo!

I'm still not sure it was the best idea to stand in front of everyone as the walk began. I sure got a lot of wet kisses as they passed me and certainly posed for an interesting perspective. And there off...

Almost as soon as it started, dogs and their people began to cross the finish line.

After the walk, the party was just getting started. There was plenty cooling off to do,

gossip to share,

kisses to give, butts to smell,

and libations to be had.

There was even a kissing booth and tricks to show off.

This super smart cookie was trained to throw the trash away.  I wish I could teach Nyla to do that.

Many of the HSMC volunteers walked with some of the shelter's residents.

This is Starbux. His person, Daniel raised the most pledges for the event!  Way to go Daniel!  Starbux will be the official "spokes-dog" for next years event.  He gets a special photo session with yours truly later in the week.

Here are all the many sweet faces I met throughout the morning.  All of the images are available for purchase.  If you are interested in purchasing a print, you can contact me HERE.

Satchel's Last Resort | Shelter Dogs | Florida Pet Photography

Last Week I was able to go out to Satchel's Last Resort in Sarasota.  Satchels is the end of the road for many of unwanted animals, taking in what some may seem as high risk. Operating on a shoe string budget, Satchel's is not fancy by any means, but they are sure functional, as well as resourceful.  They have a free roaming cat room as well with upwards of 45 cats available for adoption.

Satchel's Last Resort is one of the smaller operated animal sanctuaries.  They work miracles out there and are in constant need of support in way of food, supplies, equipment, and donations.  Satchel's is operating at full capacity right now and really need to find some of these sweet souls a forever home.  If you are looking to adopt or know someone that is, please visit their website at www.satchelslastresort.com to see all of the animals they have up for adoption.  They are appointment only so give them a call to set up a visit.

These dogs deserve a chance at life. Once out of the confines of the kennel area and into the huge open outdoor play area, where I photographed them, they all seemed to light up like little fire crackers, full of life, happiness, and love.

Cookie is a perfect example of this. Wow, what a bundle of pure joy not to mention she is super cute.

Summer is a real beauty with lots of puppy energy.  She is super smart too. Once she found out about the treats in my pocket, she did everything I asked her to.

This is Nika and Duke. Nika is super funny and cuddly. Duke is a new resident and was a bit hesitant of both me and my camera so I had to be very creative in sneaking in a few shots. He is an absolutely beautiful black shepherd.

This is Harley and Tiga and they are just like peas and carrots.  When Tiga came to Satchels, she was very shy and timid.  Harley took her right under his wing and now they are fast friends and Tiga is beginning to come out of her shell. Hopefully they will find a home together.

Pug Parade 2012 | Humane Society of Sarasota County | Sarasota Pet Photography

Saturday March 17th was the 17th Annual Pug Parade to benefit The Humane Society of Sarasota County.   For the second year in a row the event was held out on St. Armands Circle on St. Pug-tricks Day.  The event  brought out more than just pugs.  I met all kinds of four-legged fur balls and they came dressed to impress.

All of the images are available for purchase.  If you are interested in purchasing a print of your little one, please contact me HERE.  And remember to keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Facebook and Twitter.

This little hambone had the most perfect swirl to his tail.  One of the cutest pug butts I ever seen.

Shelter Friends | Humane Society of Sarasota County | Florida Pet Photography

Earlier this week, I was able to make it out to the Humane Society of Sarasota County.  I met a lot of new faces and saw some old friends as well.  Including, my boy Clyde.  He was returned to the HSSC after his new owner could no longer care for him.  He is a super awesome guy who LOVES to play fetch.  Clyde will play all day long if you let him.

It was an all around love-bug fest.  All the dogs I photographed have so much love to give and are only looking for that special someone to share it with.  So, if you are looking for that new addition to your family or know someone that is, please visit the HSSC - www.hssc.org.

Sarasota Magazine Article | Rescue Me |Florida Pet Photography

As many of you know, I have a huge soft spot for shelter pets.  So when Sarasota Magazine hired me to photograph a story they were working on for Sarasota Sheriff's Office Animal Services, it could not have been a more perfect match.

On the day I went out to Animal Services to take photographs, I met Robert Plunket, the author of the article.  It was the first time I had been out there and I was able to tour the entire facility.  I spent time with a few of the employees and volunteers, as well as, some of their fur babies up for adoption.

The article is currently running in the March issue. I highly recommend picking up a copy. You can also read the online version HERE.  I hope it will help shed some much needed light to the many animals in need of our help.

Below are a few of my favorites that didn't make the article. You can see all of the animals the shelter has up for adoption HERE.  If you are looking for that new family member please keep Sarasota Animal Services on your list of places to look.

Smooches For Pooches and Kisses for Kitties Stroll HSSC

Love was in the air at the Smooches for Pooches and Kisses for Kitties Stroll last Friday evening, Feb. 10th, down in Southside Village.  The event went to benefit The Humane Society Of Sarasota County

The kissing booth saw lots of action, for obvious reasons, of course.  Who could pass up a cuddle with these therapy pups.

The fabulous volunteer crew from the HSSC was there helping out and showing off some of the shelter's special adoptable residents.

Among the many vendors, volunteer and rescue groups were Sarasota K-9 Search and Rescue. They brought one of their puppies in training. This little ones name is Stryker.

As well as Southeastern Guide Dogs with two of their pooches in training.

I think it was love at first sight for these two!

Here are some other sweet faces I met along the way.  Keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Facebook and Twitter.

Shelter Friends – Humane Society of Sarasota County – 12.27.11

I was able to make it out to the Humane Society of Sarasota County  yesterday.  After a super busy holiday season, it was great to get out there and spend time doing what I love the most.  The HSSC was buzzing with excited potential owners and families looking for that special addition to their family.  I was thrilled to see folks out spending their holiday experiencing all that shelter pets have to offer rather than the local pet store.

Although the sky was gray and full of rain,  these guys could not have been more excited to be out  receiving much need exercise  and attention. I was able to get a few pups photographed in between the raindrops. I’m glad I had my sneakers shoes on, because for the most part, all they wanted to do is run and play.

This is Melody, a super sweet dobie mix. She didn’t seem to mind the raindrops one bit, as long as I kept throwing her a ball to chase.

Bonnie, on the left, and Clyde, on the right.  Bonnie was much more interested in finding someone to play with rather than posing for her picture, but I was able to snap this one as she zipped by me.  Clyde, on the other hand, was kind of obsessed with his reflection in my lens. He still has a lot of puppy energy, but is quite the comedian.

This is Mya. This girl has such a gentle soul and lovable disposition.  She seems to just enjoy watching what everyone else is doing. She gives some pretty sweet kisses as well.

Lastly, we have Henry, on the left, and Dora, on the right. Both of them insisted that I play a long game of fetch before they even would consider standing still for a picture.

If you are interested in starting the new year with a new friend, please visit www.hssc.org or a any local shelter in your community. And remember to keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Facebook and Twitter.

Hot Dogs and Cool Cats – 2011 – Humane Society of Sarasota County

Hot Dogs and Cool Cats – Laugh Your “Paws” Off – 2011

It is not officially the start of the holiday season without  The Humane Society of Sarasota County‘s Annual Hot Dogs and Cool Cats Benefit.  This years event took place Saturday, December 4th, out at the newly renovated Sarasota Yacht Club.  I covered the event for them last year and I was more than happy to do it again this year.  The evening filled with wonderful food, a live auction, and comedy from Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald of television’s Animal Planet.

Laugh Your Paws Off

This year’s live auction emcees were Les McCurdy and Ken Sons. They had the guests in stitches from the moment they got on stage and helped make the auction a hysterically, memorable one.  Pictured below are Les and Ken with this year’s special guest, Animal Planet’s Dr. Fitzgerald.

Shelter Friends - Humane Society of Sarasota County - 11.11.2011

What a way to spend 11.11.11, photographing all the beautiful pups up for adoption at The Humane Society of Sarasota County.    It has been a little while since I have been able to make a trip to the HSSC, but I was able to get there last Friday.  These guys all seemed to enjoy the cool temperatures and the warm sun on their bones.  So if you are looking for a new addition to your family this holiday season, be sure to stop by the HSSC and check out all the pets they have available for adoption.  Shelter pets are a special breed all there own.  We adopted our dog, Nyla, from the HSSC a few years ago and our life  is so blessed because of it.

For more information on the shelter friends of the HSSC, please visit - www.hssc.org.  And keep up with all things DogStreet by following on Facebook and Twitter.  Ok, here are some of my favorites from Friday.

This is Gracie, A sweet little Catahoula mix.  Gracie is the same breed as my dog, and could totally pass for Nyla's little sister.  She even has the same crooked ear.  Super cute!

Next up we have Carter.  Carter has major puppy energy. I was able to sneak this pic in while he was busy chewing on one of my squeakers.
